Old Game Maker Versions

The current version of Game Maker is 7.0. In certain situations you might want to use an older version of Game Maker, for example when you have an editable version of an old game. Also you may have an old PC therfore want to use version 5, as this version requires considerably less computer resources. And if you still run Windows 98 you cannot use version 7 so must use version 6.1.

On this page you can download old version of Game Maker. However, please realize that you can no longer obtain registration keys for old versions. Also realize that the new editable games with extension .gmk cannot be read by older versions.

Version 6

You are strongly advised to not use version 6 of Game Maker anymore because it is no longer supported and no registration keys are provided for it anymore.

Downloading version 6.1

If you are e.g. used to using version 6 and have a registration key and need to install it again, you can download version 6.1 here:

Unzip the file and run gmaker.exe inside it to install it. Read the included license agreement before using the program.

Tutorials for version 6

Version 5

Versions 7 and 6 of Game Maker were major rewrites. This makes them not compatible with previous versions. Also the new versions have higher requirements for the machines that run the games. If you are working on old games or your machine does not have a 3D graphics card with at least 32MB of memory, you might want to use version 5.3 instead.

You can download version 5.3 of Game Maker here:

Other versions

In case you need one of the other previous version of Game Maker you can download them here. Please realize that these versions are no longer supported. They also miss important new features. Files created with the more recent versions cannot be read by older versions. Only download these if you have an old game that does not work under the most recent version or if you want to see the progress of Game Maker over time. Also we do not give out registration codes for old versions anymore.
