YoYoGames Wiki:STYLE

From YoYoGames Wiki

The YoYo Games wiki has specific standards that have to be followed with articles (with the exception of tutorials). This is a short list of them, that will be improved later:

Point of View

In informative articles regarding a certain topic, when referring to a person, try to use the third person point of view, using words like "him"/"her"/"he"/"she". If you are talking about the person using the software, use the term: "the user".

However, for tutorials, how-to articles, and other explanatory articles about one feature, you are allowed to use the second person point of view to address the user.

  • Do not use the first person point of view; e.g: "I researched about this subject and I found out that Game Maker is slower than C++." There are no exceptions to this rules.
  • Do refer to the user in second person POV when describing a step-by-step procedure or another form of instructions; e.g. "you must make sure strings are enclosed in quotation marks."
  • Do not use the second person point of view (talking to the reader) in sentences like "You must pay a certain fee to use Game Maker."

In-wiki Linking

Main article: Project:WIKIFY

Always add Inwiki-links where appropriate; e.g: Not "Linus Torvalds is the creator of Linux, and its kernel.", but "Linus Torvalds is the creator of Linux, and its kernel.", as this raises the amount of articles needed, and makes the wiki run as there's always new stuff to write!

Spelling

Always use proper spelling; if you're not good at typing with a computer, just type it the way you want to and run it through a spell checker; as long as it's not impossible to make "proper" without a total rewrite, it should be ok (and somebody will fix your spelling later).
